Birdies for Charity
What is Birdies For Charity?
The Thunderbirds and title sponsor Friedman Billings Ramsey Group (FBR) have an exciting way for Arizona’s charities to cash-in on the birdies made during the competitive rounds of the 2008 FBR Open. The program titled Birdies For Charity has two separate components - the FBR Open Arizona Charity Pledge Drive component and the Corporate Partners component - both geared towards raising thousands of additional dollars for Arizona charities.
Arizona Charity Pledge Drive
The Arizona Charity Pledge Drive component of Birdies For Charity invites Arizona-based 501C3 organizations to involve the community in a pledge drive program based on the total number of birdies made during the 2008 FBR Open.
Anyone can fill-out a pledge form and pledge one cent or more per birdie to be a part of the program. Donor incentives include the Grand Prize of a new Buick vehicle and more than 100 other great prizes - all awarded through a random drawing of collected pledges approximately two months after the conclusion of the 2008 FBR Open.
No funds will be collected by the participating charities. The Thunderbirds will invoice those who filled out pledge forms following the 2008 FBR Open and collect all monies. 100 percent of the collected Birdies For Charity pledges will go directly to the soliciting charity.

Are there any costs for the Charities?
With the exception of postage, there is no cost for the participating charities to be involved in the program. The Thunderbirds have covered all program costs, including: printing, staffing, program administration and accounting. FBR, as part of their on-going commitment to the tournament and the charities it supports, donated the Buick.
Corporate Partners Component
For the Corporate Partners component, the Thunderbirds will solicit their 25 largest tournament sponsors and asked them to make a minimum pledge based on the total number of birdies made by the PGA TOUR players during tournament play. The minimum corporate pledge is $10 per birdie and the six-year average for total birdies at the FBR/Phoenix Open is 1,500. After entering the program, the corporation may then freely select an Arizona-based charity as the recipient of their pledge. In addition, Thunderbirds Charities (the charitable giving arm of the Thunderbirds organization) will then match the corporate pledge by fifty percent, up to $12,500. Following the 2007 FBR Open, one-hundred percent of the corporation’s pledge and matching amount from Thunderbirds Charities will then be donated, in the corporation’s name, to their selected charity
